[pct-l] water pump

I don't thruhike but I have used many water filters. You have to make a
choice between one that you can clean and one where you replace the filter.
For short hikes I use a Sweetwater Guardian because it is very light. I used
to use a MSR. Both are very easy to pump.

The MSR is easily cleanable and would possibly last an entire thruhike. The
Guardian will not. You will need to replace the filter every so often. I an
also familiar with the Katadyn and First Need. Both of these are hard to
pump. Both clog easily. I would not advise either.
