Rex Creek Complex Fire Update

Fire activity was light yesterday, mostly taking place in Safety Harbor and
within drainages that have already burned. Overall, the fire is not
advancing. The north end of the fire will not be staffed today, but will be
monitored. Crews working on the structural protection of cabins along the
lakeshore have been pulling up equipment and hose and will be removing it
today. Crews and water drops will be used to work on hot spots along the
southern flank. The spike camp at Lucerne Lake will be shut down today and
demobilization of resources will begin tomorrow. Containment is now 65%,
with full containment expected September 7. The total acreage for the
complex is currently estimated at 43,000 acres (Rex Creek, 42,069 acres;
Glory, 931 acres).
A level III evacuation remains in effect for the shoreline between Safety
Harbor Creek and Gold Creek. The level III areas are closed to public
entry.
USFS boat-in campgrounds in the entire fire area will remain closed.
The following road closures will remain in effect:
 #8200 Grade Creek Rd. at Antilon Lake corral
 #8020 Cooper Mtn. Rd. at Black Canyon Rd.
 #8140 Antoine Creek Rd. at the Forest boundary on the Chelan
District
 #600 S. Fork Gold Creek Rd. at the junction with McFarland Creek
Rd. on the Methow Valley Ranger District
Trail and wilderness closures still in effect:
 Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness trails on the Chelan and Methow
Valley Ranger Districts
 Sawtooth backcountry trails from Crater Creek Trail south to
Safety
Harbor Creek Trail on Chelan and Methow Valley Ranger Districts
 Purple Creek and Boulder Creek trails near Stehekin in the Lake
Chelan National Recreation Area
 Lakeshore trail from Stehekin to Flick Creek and points south
 Flat Creek Trail (near the Glory Fire) in North Cascades National
Park
Personnel, Crews and Equipment: 778 personnel, including four Type 1 crews
and 14 Type 2 crews. Other resources include 9 helicopters, 6 bulldozers,

engines, 9 water tenders and 30 boats.
Cost: $4.3 million
Cooperating Agencies: USDA Forest Service, National Park Service,
Washington
State Department of Natural Resources, Chelan County Sheriff's Department,
Washington Army and Air National Guard, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of
Land Management, American Red Cross, Washington Department of Fish and
Wildlife, U.S. Coast Guard, Chelan Valley EMS, and many state and county
agencies from across the country.
