Well, if it's not illegal immigrants, deep snow, ticks, bears, 
rattlers or even pistol-wielding trail angels for PCT hikers to deal 
with, according to today's LA Daily News there is (was, rather) a

Mountain lion killed by sharpshooters

lion that ate a neighborhood cat and eluded authorities for three 
weeks was killed Saturday by U.S. Fish and Game sharpshooters,
