[pct-l] John Muir Trail\
Well, I happened to notice the "AT speed record 2001 attempt" on that
page. I was sitting there reading this stuff and then it hit me like a
pile of rocks: "Holy...I met this guy. I know I did!" I just did a 170
mile section of the AT last week and as I was comparing his journal to
mine...we passed each other. He was on his fourth day, 120 miles into the
Appalachian Trail, and I was on my fourth day, 45 miles in. Maybe "met"
is an overstatement. I noticed that he had no pack, it was raining, he
was walking VERY quickly up a well graded slope, and was wearing a
Montrail hat that I had gotten at Traildaze in 2000. Later that day,
about 23 miles later, I met a guy who had been passed that morning by two
guys running. All I can say is that I sincerely hope that he's having
fun. To each his own -Howie
