Here is some information for anyone who would like to resupply in Kernville, instead of Onyx or instead of continuing to Kennedy Meadows (total distance 138 miles) from Tehachapi Pass on Rt. 58 (after resupply in Mojave or Tehachapi). I found this especially refreshing after the 84 mile Section   from Rt. 58 at Tehachapi Pass to Rt. 178 at Walker Pass.

TRANSPORTATION: Getting there is involves a few steps. First, a hitch-hike on Rt. 178 from either the trailhead at Walker Pass (possibility of a ride from dayhikers) or the section of Rt. 178 outside of the Walker Campground at a hairpin turn (there is room for cars to pullover here but still be careful). It is 18 miles to Onyx from where you can take a bus first to Lake Isabella then to Kernville via a transfer at the Lake Isabella Senior Center. Here's the schedule There is NO SERVICE on SUNDAYS:  

Onyx to Lake Isabella: A.M. 5:30, 6:45, 8:05, 9:25, 10:45 P.M. 12:05, 1:25, 2:45, 4:05, 5:25 Each route will make a stop at the KOA campground which is about 7 miles past Onyx

Lake Isabella to Kernville: A.M. 7:45, 9:05, 10:25, 11:45 P.M. 1:05, 2:25, 3:45, 5:05

DRUGSTORES: The Drugstore M-F 9-6, Sat 9-5

LAUNDRY: The Washboard 7am-7:30 pm every day ** Washing facilites at Kernville Inn

POST OFFICE: Kernville, CA 93238 M-F 9 am to 4 pm Package pick-up only on      Saturdays 12 - 12:30 pm

OUTFITTERS: Archie's Hardware (Coleman Fuel & some limited items) ** Sierra South Mountain Sports (mostly for rafting and kayaking) ** Sequoia Outdoor Center also geared for water enthusiasts.

GROCERIES: Jack's Store 7am-9pm M-Sat, 7am-8pm Sun ** Plus several mini-marts

RESTAURANTS: Pizza Barn 11-9 M-Th, 11-10 F & Sat, 12-9 Sun ** 2 Mexican restaurants ** That's Italian Food ** Several cafes and ice cream shops :-}

RAFTING & KAYAKING: Most of the rafting places offered half-day trips for $20 individuals or $15 if you are in a group of 4 or more. For individuals, the best options are on Sat & Sun.

CAVEAT: Kernville is a very quaint town but busy during the weekends so be prepared to make arrangements ahead of time especially for hotels.
