[pct-l] Closing Section "A" Water Drops
Again this year, volunteers associated with the 2001 ADZPCTKOP provided
bottled water in three locations along the PCT in Southern CA (Section A).
The three water cache sites were known as:
Lucky 5 Ranch (~5 miles north of Pioneer Mail Trailhead),
Scissors Crossing (junction of Highways 78 and S-2), and
San Felipe Hills (near the third gate, ~ 13 miles north of Highway 78).
The intent of ADZ organizers was to provide water in Section A for hikers
beginning their journey north from the monument at Campo. Since most hikers
left Campo in late April, all are assumed to be well beyond the locations of
the water drop sites. Even the few who started in early May are expected to
pass north of the water drop sites by the end of the month.
Therefore, volunteers will no longer resupply the water drop sites this year.
Water that is currently on each site will be left for hiker use until June
10. After June 10, volunteers will return to the three water cache sites to
remove all water bottles and clean up the trash.
NOTE: Hikers passing through those locations after May 25 most likely WILL
NOT find water available at the water cache sites. Hikers who elect to hike
in Section A after May 25 MUST make their own arrangements for sufficient
water.
Be safe; carry water!
