I did 30 miles a day for 3 months (including town stops)

Had a wonderful time. 

If one walks 12 hours a day at 2.5 mph, that is enough. Sleep 8, that still leaves 4 hours of lounging about and cooking.......

I never hurried, (except when in town). I just didn't take many breaks, nor knock off early. The only day I "pushed it" was from the Sierra Pelona across the Mojave to Cottonwood, and I only did that because I wanted to walk at night along the aquaduct...

Just a different point of view.
