Besides the Ranger Station in Lone Pine, hikers also frequent the Pizza 
Factory and PJ's Restaurant. Thru-hikers are easy to pick out of the crowd, 
even after a shower. Those that have arranged a ride may also have room for a 
passenger.

If forced to hitchhike back to Horseshoe Meadows, I'd recommend you wait 
within half a block of Highway 395. At least, if you don't get a ride, you 
are still in Lone Pine. As wc mentioned, it's way too far to walk.
