[pct-l] Complaint about Red's Meadow pricing for packages--

Actually Muir Trail Ranch is VERY friendly. Their attitude, however, is that
what they contracted to do is handle your resupply bucket but NOTHING more.
They have NO SERVICES for hikers. They run a dude ranch and have a
responsibility to their guests who aree paying 10 grand a week to rent the
facilities. They don't make money on handling the bucket and are doing it as
a service. If you have other expectations you will be disappointed.

Butch at Vermillion Valley Ranch is also very friendly. However, he caters
to hikers, particulary thru hikers. He has services for hikers and can make
a few bucks off them. Further VVR has a restaurant and store and usually has
cabins. This is a better place to stop. Except......

.....VVR is over Seldon Pass and Bear Ridge from Muir Trail Ranch. It is a
day longer without resupply possibly two if you plan to catch the AM boat.

Red's Meadow's seems like a bargain next to Muir Trail Ranch. MTR
charged $45 in '99 and is the unfriendliest place in the world! They
give you your bucket and act like you aren't even there. We had a few
simple questions about the next day or two on the trail. We got the
bum's rush....Do not resupply at MTR. Vermillion is only another day and
I have heard they treat you well.
