RE: [pct-l] Racing on the PCT? Input requested..

In 98, on our PCT hike, we left Big Bear City to find there was a 35 mile
race of 200 runners using the trail where we were headed.  We met all 200 of
those runners, which meant we had to step off the trail for them all.  I
guess it could have been annoying, but we found it fun.  Feeling somewhat
like salmon swimming upstream, we enjoyed it all, from the first runners
zipping past us to the last runner walking.  We found ourselves cheering and
applauding the runners, most of whom had a smile for us, too.  There we
were, all of us, out enjoying a beautiful morning in a lovely place.
