If you are looking for some hiking oppourtunities around Mt Hood prior to ALDHA W , I would suggest the Timberline Trail.  Its shy of 50 miles and circles Mt Hood.  Part of the loop uses the PCT.  Lots of great views and vistas.  The trail does have a certain amount of see/saw elevation gain and loss.  Part of the loop goes by Timberline Lodge.
