Time to weigh in on the shoe thing again. While the debate rages, I say
log off your computer and go try the other way! For instance, I hiked in
boots for years. Now that I've tried running shoes, I am totally sold. I'm
just a lot happier.
What kind of shoe to use? Whatever is on sale, has a fairly stiff sole,
has a good pattern on the sole, and makes you feel like you got soul.
Repeat the mantra: sale, sole, soul. My limit is $30, and the shoe is
pretty trashed by 800 miles or so. But then I hike on scree slopes,
bushwack, sometimes carry huge climbing loads. They may last longer if
treated better.
Maybe because I'm an ectomorph I can get away with this but you never know
until you try. If you never have used boots, go try those (but it costs a
lot more).
Now to shoo away my smelly shoes.
