Not much of an ultralight hiker, but I too cured all my foot problems when I went to Merrell sandals. SealSkins and woolies in winter. If I could just figure out how to keep the snow from slight balling between my sandals and SealSkins when I snowshoe it would be perfect. No blisters, trench foot or anything else. By the way, if you think you are getting any ankle support from anything but mid-calf military style boots you are kidding yourself. Oh, I did glue Hiker inserts into the ones I use on the trail...works for me....just like your system works for you.
