My personal best was having a 2 liter of coke and
> 1/2 gallon of chocolate ice cream finished in 30 minutes.

That is a good qualifying time Greg. my personal best was ordering the
family special at a Pizza place in Big Bear City. one order of breadsticks,
one order of cheese sticks, one large pizza and one pitcher of coke.
Followed by an ice cream bar from the local gas station. mmmmmmmmmm.

The other patrons in the restaurant were giving me some strange looks, but I
was one happy gluttonous individual.

Subject: [pct-l] How hiking the trail has changed me.
Content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

1. I moved to laramie wyoming to get away from the city and be close
to 100s of miles of trails.

2. A part of me walks the trail still. I go to sleep within my
cherished memories. The campspot at Sawyer's Bar on the north slope of
the North Sister, the little creek flowing along the edge of a lava
field with views to the north to Jefferson and beyond. The horror at
watching my sweety slip and begin to slide down Gibralter Ridge and
leaping after her. Muir Pass at the orangest sunset (fires in the
valley) I've ever seen, with two slides to prove it. The pass above
spectacle lake just north of Snboqualmie Pass, and tossing down my
sleeping bag after a 20 mile day and watching the shadows slide across
the landscape. The knife edge in the Goat Rocks on a windy, cloudy
day. The mosquitos at Sisters Mirror Lake. The wet and cold hiking
around Glacier Peak in a Whiteout. The deck at the bar at Belden and a
non-alcohlic beer. Hiking south along the San Joaquin River and
marveling and marveling. Hiking south up Forester Pass without
stopping, just jacked up beyond telling. Getting lost north of Sierra
Buttes in a clearcut. Having a bear do a double take when he saw me,
40' away, and bounding over the log he was grubbing, down the trail a
half mile or so from the first of the Rae Lakes. The Oregon desert
south of Crater Lake, and the heat, the bloody heat.

3. Beginning to plan the next trip in January. This year, 25 or so
days and 400 miles on the CDT in southern colorado.
