[pct-l] Doug Gates starts his hike

Doug Gates started his very high tech hike this morning at about 8 o'clock.
Doug will be mapping the trail using GPS.  He is enthusiastic about the
newly increased accuracy of the system.  He is also carrying a fully
fitted-out wireless laptop computer, from which he will post updates,
journal entries and photographs, taken with his Olympus 2.1 megapixel
digital camera.  He had cell phone coverage at the monument where I have
never had service with my Airtouch digital phone.  All this technology comes
at a price.  His pack weighed 60 (six zero) pounds.
