I believe that trying to climb Forrester BEFORE two weeks after the
UpperTyndallCreek snow pillow hits ZERO snow requires serious mountaineering
experience. This is based on comparing the trail logs of thruhikers in 1998,
1999 with the UTC snow pillow. In 1999 I kicked the last snow off the trail
in the infamous chute on August 7, 1999...something like 60 days after the
UTC pillow read zero.
Greg climbs Ritter with crampons and ice axe. I walk dry, snow-free trails.
That is the reason for the difference of opinion. Who are you closer to?
I was on the trail at Sally Keys Lakes on June 17 1999. Most thruhikers made
it thru the high passes, the miles of postholing and the scary
watercrossings but were WORN out by the process.
Regards,
Tom
PS: What do I know. I don't thruhike.
