I gave up my "my $#&%@* whisperlite!!" for the same reason. However, sever
people swear by gasoline stoves. In 2002 I will use butane and work out the
supply problems. My understanding is that YOU can mail butane but only
surface.
On the other hand, I am planning to cook 2-3 meals per day for 2 people and
the section I am planning to hike [Kennedy Meadows to I-80] has abundant
water so I will save lots of weight by cooking my meals.
In other areas this is not so. If I was carrying primarily prepared food,
like through the desert, I would use alcohol or a zip stove.
