Subject: [pct-l] Another bear canister question
I've been using an aluminum bear canister (the "Bear Can") the last two
seasons and unfortunately for me, it was stolen from my garage recently
(I'm sure the individual who stole it has no idea what it is). Before I
purchase another, is there a newer, lighter bear canister that is
commercially available these days, or are the Garcia and the Bear Can
still the only two?
Thanks,
Lynn

Wild Ideas in Santa Barbara made prototypes last year which were enormous but
light. They were available for rent in various national parks. They were
well tested and reportedly had no failures. I used one on the JMT last
summer. It has space for about nine days worth of food for the same weight
as the Garcia. They're coming out with a smaller model, about 600 cc
weighing 1.6 lbs, which for me is a lot more practical. Contact Craig at
info@wild-ideas.net. Bob R.
