Just my opinion, but I think you're correct to choose the N/S direction if
you're planning an early July start. The trail guide is kind of slanted
toward a S/N hike but is almost as handy for one travelling the other way.
If you also carry the PCT Data Book, you'll have all the info you need to
find your way. The data book has distances both directions and gives you
more detail about water sources, facilities available at resupply points,
etc.
I intend to hike the JMT N/S starting in late July. Perhaps our paths will
cross. As you pass through Section O, don't forget to give thanks to Tony
DeBellis and the volunteer army for making that stretch hikable.
