RE: [pct-l] big pack or little pack

Taking this logic further, as I prepare to set up my humble stealth camp,
featuring all of the amenities I truly need for a warm, comfortable night
sleep, surrounded by the pines and the stars above, I should suddenly break
from my bliss and admit that, hey, I was far more comfortable back home. I'm
bailing out.

The idea of comfort has many levels, from the hedonistic to the plain and
simple. Again, I maintain that my comfort level is not less, it is more.
Why? Because I do not ask my wilderness experiences to resemble life back in
the city. I ask that nature fulfill more of my needs, and I ask that my
travels be unburdened by any unwillingness to adapt. My longer journeys are
about adaptation and personal growth. I have carried all of the amenities in
the past. Now, 6000 trail miles later, I do not. Camping with all the gizmos
and gadgets was fun, but hiking with it was never fun, and camping without
it is just as comfortable. Mental shift, away from the overcivilized, and
toward a simpler happiness.
