RE: [pct-l] Re: pct-l-digest V1 #1014

A thruhike as defined by Jim Owen is "walking {as opposed to a thru ride]
the trail [end-to-end] in one hiking season". A "long distance hike" as
defined by the ALDHA is anything over 200 miles. A "backpack" is going out
there with your "house on your back".

Inherent in the idea of a thruhike is a goal of finishing the trail in one
season. If you didn't finish you didn't meet your goal. Does this make the
attempt a failure -- this depends on you. Does this make YOU a failure?
Certainly NOT. You made the attempt to fulfill a [presumably] long term
ambition that is damn difficult. You are to be commended for your attempt.
