[pct-l] gear help

Hi folks!
Been enjoying the posts from many, and I am keen to
see you all on the trail in a few months.  Life in
northwestern Michigan is quite a long way from
California, and I have yet to find much local help in
planning my trip.  Can you give me (the digest)some
help?   
First of all, I cannot find Schaffer's "The Pacific
Crest Trail - California" anywhere.  all the
bookstores (and dot coms too) are sold out, and the
publisher won't have it out 'till March.  I need to
read it.  Wanna sell me yours?  Please help!
And secondly, I need some gear advice/ suggestions/
success stories.  Specifically bags and packs. 
Looking for something around 2.5 pounds and warm as
can be.  It's got to be synthetic, and able to scrunch
into my next research project, a 4500-5000 ci pack
with many pockets.  That needs to weigh in as close or
less than 5 pounds as possible.  Are there any
standards out there, much like the stoves
(whisperlite) and and boots (sundowners)?
