An interesting short video about NASA collecting accurate data on water
content in the snow pack, using a modest sized turbine aircraft as the
platform.

The instruments (two) measure the sun's affect on the depth of snow over
time, to determine how much water is contained in the snow, to an
incredibly accurate degree.
