[pct-l] Body weight versus pack weight

I understand the logic. Both scenarios your muscles are pushing 200 lbs
up the hill. However, this assume both are in similar shape - one person
is just larger than the other (thus capable of carrying more load).
The old rule of thumb was not carry a pack more than 25% of body weight.
On the PCT, we try to carry far less.

On the JMT section this year, I'm planning on 11 days between resupply
since I'm on a tight schedule. I'll have a pack weight totaling 23% of my
body weight. That's about the max I would want. However, a much bigger
guy could carry more pounds than me.

You are used to carry your own weight, so the total weight doesn't matter.
What matters is the weight of your pack in comparison (%) to your body
weight.
