I have been reading this book, The Story of the Human Body, Evolution, Health and Disease. The author has some interesting theories. He states that because evolution of the human body took place during our primitive hunter gather period that our bodies are now rejecting our new modern life style and have developed several what he calls evolutionary mismatch diseases. Plantar Fasciitis is one of those mismatch diseases among several others such as high blood pressure, diabetes, dementia, myopia, flat footedness, obesity, back pain, some cancers, etc. All of his theories are backed up with some scientific evidence.

It helped me understand why and how to prevent a lot of common ailments that are plaguing our society.

This is an excerpt of the section on plantar fasciitis.

I used to suffer from plantar fasciitis as well. Once I started eating an anti-inflammatory diet (in my case, The Whole 30) and taking a few supplements, it went away. I know this is not the case for everyone, but it did work for me.
The supplements I take daily for inflammation are turmeric and milk thistle. Seems effective for everyday life. I work out almost daily, so I am putting some stress on the system and it is still holding up. I'm sure hiking 2600 miles will stir things up a bit more ;-) Cheers Sabrina
