20 years ago-- before climate change, there were streams and springs that ran until a expected time based on the winter snow levels. They were on the maps. We all carried enough water to make it to the reliable sources. That at times was 8 liters. My pack was heavy but "oh well" I just expected to have to do it and was glad to get to the Sierra where there was more water. I was pretty jealous of taller people whose pack to height ratio was lower. We had the guidebooks. I went through mine and marked all the water sources in blue highlighter. I think I was always so worried about having enough water that I will never be able to shake that concern.
I think the water report is wonderful

They do it more "efficiently" now by using helicopters to a pond, etc. Hmm. Is it really more efficient, or does it just cost more?
