[pct-l] Trekking Poles

I have been lucky. The pair I bought at REI were still covered under their old warranty policy.

The first pair I bought in 2008 broke so REI replaced the section I needed.

I continued to abuse the poles and when they started collapsing because the twist lock mechanism was inferior REI agreed to replace them with their newer cam lock poles.

Just a month ago I needed to replace the tips and when I went to the REI store and the salesperson told me that they did not have replacement tips and because I bought them so long ago the old warranty was still in effect and offered to replace the poles with new ones. After looking at the new poles and testing them by placing my weight on them and seeing that the bottom section was bowing considerably I decided I would try to fix my old poles. It was rather disconcerting to find out that it was not easy getting replacement parts from Komperdell so I took the chance and ordered a pair of non-specific Komperdell replacement tips on Amazon and they do fit but when the poles collapse the tips are different enough that the poles do not fully collapse and lock in place.

Since then I have found a company that services Komperdell equipment and I will eventually send them pictures of the poles and old tips to see if I can get the correct replacement tips. If anyone needs replacement parts for Komperdell I can supply their email address. The service company also suggested I mail the poles to them and that way they would insure that they replace the tips with the correct model (they offered free return shipping).

I've used Komperdells for years. The first pair I had finally wore out (the internal locking mechanism). They were so old that the company didn't have the parts to repair them. They gave me a good deal on a replacement pair.

BTHW I use a pair of circa 2011 REI carbon fiber poles made by Komperdell.
I don't know how the new ones are made but the ones I have, have taken a lot of abuse.
