Does not look good at all.
Missing for 7 days and gear found in the approximate area where he
was to meet a friend with resupplies 7 days ago but never arrived as
planed.
Experienced hikers don't abandon their gear unless in serious trouble.
Let's hope for the best, but I do not think that this will have a
happy ending.

NORTH COUNTY — Sheriff's deputies, volunteers and a specialized U.S. Border Patrol team resumed their search Wednesday morning for a missing hiker whose gear was believed found in a remote area north of Warner Springs.

Chris Sylvia, 28, of Vista, left the Anza Borrego area on Feb. 12 for a solo hike. He had planned to meet a friend in Lost Valley on Feb. 17 to get fresh supplies, but never showed up, sheriff's officials said. He was described as an experienced hiker.

His friend thought he had just continued on the hike, but became concerned when Sylvia did not show up in Campo, his final destination. The friend contacted the Sheriff's Department on Tuesday.
