The ocean for which the trail is named is rarely visible from the route. I
figure it can probably be seen from the San Gabriels, which I haven't yet
traveled, and Puget Sound is probably visible in Washington State. I've
seen coastal fog and a break in the mountains at three places: south of
Chihuahua Valley Road (Trail Angel Mike) in San Diego County; at the
trail's westernmost point, south of Huckleberry Mountain above the Klamath;
and in the southern Oregon Cascades looking west to the Umpqua Valley.
Who's had actual sea views, and where?

Mt. Pacifico, obviously, along with Baden-Powell and much of the Angeles Crest area. It has to be a very clear day, of course. When it is clear, the most amazing views are to be had: Mt San Jacinto, Mt. San Gorgonio, Telescope Peak, El Paso Mtns, Tehachapis, Great Western Divide and the High Sierra at Mt. Whitney.
