[pct-l] Search and rescue

If you hit the SOS button on the Spot, she will probably be notified of your
action by the Spot people. (I assume you listed her as your contact person.)
This will probably happen before before she notices that you sent a SOS. If
she verifies that you are indeed in the area and may be in trouble, Spot
will notify the local authorities.

Now if you disappear without hitting the Spot SOS button ...? My guess is
the local sheriffs office.

By the way, you should tell her that you may hit the SOS button in order to
help another hiker who needs help.

That's my understanding and what I have heard from other incidents.

My wife, a worrier, has asked me who should she call if I disappear on the
Socal PCT, or if I hit SOS on my Spot beacon. Is there a central search and
rescue number or agency for the Socal portion of the trail? Thanks!

Mike Pietro
