I’ve had the pleasure of talking recently with 2006 PCT thru hiker, Token Civilian, who told me how thankful he was to have had the training to self-arrest before his long-distance hike. Whether you use an ice axe or a self-arrest pole like the Whippet, don’t go onto steep snow without one!
