[pct-l] Question regarding Section A Required Permits

Did you read Order 88-1 that you refer to? It says "Wilderness and
Primitive" areas. These are defined terms, as in a Congressionally
designated Wilderness or Primitive Area. This doesn't mean just out on the
trail even though you may be a long way from anywhere. As I stated, anytime
you go through a designated Wilderness Area (or a designated Primitive Area,
although I can't remember if the PCT goes through any officially designated
Primitive Areas) you need a permit. Also need a permit in some of the State
Parks and most, if not all, the National Parks that the PCT goes through.
But you do not need a permit otherwise.

I abide by the rules to the letter and I am not encouraging people to
circumvent the rules when all I am doing is ACCURATELY stating the rules.
Like I said, if you want to get a permit most ranger stations will give you
one and it is a good idea to let them know you are out there, but again not
required.

And finally, his post was very specific. It said Section A and then Section
B to Paradise Cafe. That is south of the San Jacinto Wilderness Area and it
was the San Jacinto Wilderness Area that I was referring to when I said no
permit was needed until further north in Section B.

Check out order 88-1,

&width=full
So I stand corrected, it's any time you enter not multi-day. And besides,
there is a safety issue that the service wants to know who and when folks
are in the back country and/wilderness. Also this whole corredor is under
constant surveillance by DHS. Besides, it's not hard to get the permit and
it's the right thing to do. We should not be encouraging circumventing the
rules. Finally, the original post mentiined Section B but was not specific.
San Jacinto is definitely permit required.
