We have been through this issue several times on this list serve over the
years. Other than your campfire permit, you only need a permit in
designated wilderness areas and to stay in certain improved campgrounds. If
you go to a ranger station they will issue you a permit, but it is not
required outside of designated wilderness areas. The portion of the trail
that he was inquiring about does not go through any designated wilderness
areas other than a tiny corner of Hauser Creek Wilderness, and if you stay
on the PCT for that mile or so, the Cleveland National Forest does not
require PCT hikers to get a permit.

Not sure why you have this opinion but anytime you are on more than a day
hike in the backcountry of a NP, forest or BLM managed land you are required
to aquire a permit. In the case of sections A and B the various ranger
stations cooperate with one another. The local station in Alpine can be
reached at 619.445.6235 and you should be able to arrange a single permit
along the PCT between Campo and I-10.

No, the first place you would need a permit is further north in Section B.

Besides the California Fire Permit, are there any other required permits to
hike Section A of the PCT plus part of Section B to the Paradise Valley
Cafe?
