We’re having a little fun tonight:

Posted a short video on the Mountain Education YouTube channel in a new Playlist called, “Backpacking Basics: Skills to Anticipate,” all about getting up those ridiculous tall step-ups so commonly found on steep, sierra summer ascents.

I know it’s something we all know how to do, but who films how to do it? Somewhere along the line we learn how to plan for and get up these nasty, challenging, often granite steps.

What do you think of this “Beginner’s Skills” idea?

If I had seen these sort of instructional videos years ago, it might have saved me a little concern...

(this video is a little “rough” and raw, but it is a start)
