[pct-l] New Subscriber -- 3 Questions

Hi I'm Glen and I'm planning to do my thru in April from Campo.  I've
enjoyed reading the list so far and have a couple of requests for advice:

1. Is April 15 a good start date? Are they still having that annual "kick
off" each year? If so, when?
2. I'm interested in "pay as I go" resupply instead of mailing boxes. Any
areas where there is simply no food to purchase? PCTA is pretty optimistic
on their site, but I have my doubts...
3. I love my tarp but am thinking of taking a tent as I don't like bugs and
snakes. Any serious problems with these along the route? I've never camped
in the west.
