[pct-l] Snow on the PCT in Southern Oregon

There was 4 inches of snow on the PCT about 9 miles north of Fish Lake
Resort in Oregon today, with more on the way. It probably will mett,
but this is an early start to the winter season. Fire season has ended
three weeks early because of the moisture. We saw a lone thru
hiker--Yazzie--at Fish Lake yesterday who is determined to continue
north to the Canadian border. He had his blaze orange vest on for the
hunting season and is preparing to get snow shoes. Good luck to him!!

The PCT shows, just as with other outdoor physical challenges, there
is an evolution of effort when many people accomplish the goal--winter
ascents of mountains is an example after many people have climbed the
mountain in the good weather season. Someday someone will accomplish
the first winter traverse of the PCT because the challenge of doing it
in the season of good weather is not enough--so many have done it. I
am not advocating this, just making an observation after seeing how
climbing has gone over 40 years.
