This is not correct.

There are varying levels of restriction on stoves, smoking and fire in
general that depend on the dictates of the local land manager. It is
not uncommon for ALL stoves, no matter what type, to be banned in
areas with high wildfire danger. You can't just think your canister
stove is always "legal."

Stove type, or "stove-less" are all personal choices. After having a
canister stove once become a spinning flame thrower, I'm personally no
comfortable with that type of stove, but I'm never going to say
someone shouldn't use one.

I've generally found that one people are well into a thru hike, they
become a lot LESS passionate about gear choices... a a lot more
passionate about food.
