[pct-l] Williamson attempting to regain unsupported PCT

Reinhold. Just to clarify this one point, Diane did not call your *buddies* stupid. She said that she thought that the *records* were "kinda stupid."

Dictionary.com lists five definitions for the word stupid:

"stu·pid
[stoo-pid, styoo‐] Show IPA adjective, stu·pid·er, stu·pid·est, noun
adjective
1. lacking ordinary quickness and keenness of mind; dull.
2. characterized by or proceeding from mental dullness; foolish; senseless: a stupid question.
3. tediously dull, especially due to lack of meaning or sense; inane; pointless: a stupid party.
4. annoying or irritating; troublesome: Turn off that stupid radio.
5. in a state of stupor; stupefied: stupid from fatigue."

It's really quite different to call a person stupid (definitions 1 and 5) than to say that a thing is stupid (definitions 2--4.) My guess is that she meant that they were pointless (definition 3.)

Given that she has hiked the PCT and understands the wildly varying conditions that exist on an imaginary line that is constantly changing in many ways, I would think that Diane is thinking that there is no comparing one hike to another. That is just my guess. But one thing is sure: She did not call your buddies stupid. I could break her sentence down into its component parts in order to identify the noun that she was defining in her sentence, but that would be kinda stupid (definition 4, "annoying or irritating".)
