One mountain biker I confronted on the PCT asked me if I ever exceeded the speed limit on the highway in an effort to suggest that we all break the law.  I told him yes I do exceed the speed limit on the highway sometimes, but I don't drive on the sidewalk because it is illegal to drive a car on the sidewalk just as it is illegal to ride a bike on the PCT. Seemed like a better analogy to me. He just laughed, got back on his bike and rode illegally away.  C'est la vie.
