With out question these people possess a California Camp fire permit, and as such , exert their state given right to enjoy a campfire when ever and where they are with that permit in hand.
As a social setting some hikers experience and the need to survive at any cost or the need to escape the extreme cold often encountered by some unlucky hikers, it could be theorized that such occurrences are random and unpredictable, yet in the cited instance an appearance of premeditated camp fire is clear and evident with the inclusion of a wood cutting implement .
Now this is not a normal behavior or item to be carried for a section or thru hiker.
Chain saws, hatchets, machetes, bush buddies and the like are something the trail gorillas lug around so if its needed let them take care of it.
I also wonder if these hikers are this open and brazen with their disrespect for the trail, what else are they doing, did they wash their feet in the cattle trough? Are these the same that cant go off trail to do business.
According to custom, in the future we shall call this kind of march a tardeada , which is practiced when it is not possible to accomplish the whole of it in one day.
