The "best" is either HEET in the yellow bottle or denatured alcohol
in a metal can. Some places (hardware stores) will sometimes sell the
alcohol to thru-hikers by the ounce so you don't even have to buy a
whole can. It is so easy to obtain it is sometimes even given away
for free in hiker boxes or from trail angels. The free kind is the
best kind. The yellow HEET is available pretty much everywhere
because it's the Pacific CREST Trail and you are at high altitude
most of the time.
