[pct-l] Navigation without GPS and instruction

Martin,

I'm new to this as well and appreciate your question. Many times I
prefer the added perspective, knowledge and interaction a class
setting can provide. I'm in Bellingham, Washington (where this whole
PCT thing started), and the REI here only charges about $10 for the
class. Even if it seems expensive, it may be worth it, (like learning
self-arrest) consider it insurance for the trail... It sounds like
you're looking for instruction from an experienced individual, not
just independent learning from a book. There is the Alpine Institute
here as well as a mountaineers club and a hiking club. You may try
contacting the equivalent in your area and see if anyone is open to
helping you out in exchange for coffee or lunch. If you don't have
access to any of these options, maybe there are some videos online...?
hope that triggers an idea :)
