Hi, Elizabeth. GO FOR IT!
Altho I've had decades of experience hiking, it's always new. Come to the Kickoff if you possibly can. Definitely use Yogi's handbook advice. Don't worry about being a solo woman. I am. Just watch out for "sketchy characters" while hitchhiking; always pair up with another hiker. You can be a "ride bride." You'll be fine.
You already have an important quality, a willingness to ask when you aren't sure. We all get by with a little help from our friends.
And remember the No Regrets rule.
See you out there. Stone Dancer

for me its the same..its my first thru-hike and i've been preparing myself
or the trail since nearly a year.
In terms of gear, re-supplies and the terrain..and than i read something
ew and different from other, more experienced hikers which already
inished the PCT.. i've tried to learn from the mistakes of others and
ogi's PCT books helped me a lot and lets me reconsider/refine my strategy.
uring the last few weeks i've felt like I'm not prepared good enough
water sources in the desert, food mail drops..) This has changed a lot in
he last days. Lets see how my increased theory knowledge works in
eal-life situations..
I agree with David: Better do it now - i don't know what's gonna happen
ext year..this could be the time of my life.
I hope to find a hiking partner (or partners) who has a compatible
iking-style, maybe there are some hikers when i start at the 24/25th.

very inexperienced hikers that do a thru every year.
If you are heading NOBO and leaving near kick off you are better off not
finding a partner before the hike. It is too easy to find one on the hike
that will be more compatible. Besides you may find you want some alone
time. Also you can mix up who you hike with on the trail.
BTW, If I could I'd be thru hiking this year. And next, and next ...
Read this form, keep you pack weight down to something reasonable (not 40+
lbs), get in some hikes to toughen the feet if you can, get the water
report right before you leave, and have fun.....
Its an adventure that can change your life. Don't let fear get in your
way.

PS. Everyone has these questions/fears/concerns before their 1st thru hike
