[pct-l] Tarp camping without a bivy

Sean,
Well, I use a tarp with no bivy all the time. The trick is to use a larger tarp so you don't worry about the spray. They all seem to balance out at around 12-14 ounces, weather you go for a small tarp w/bivy or a larger tarp without one.
A bit less is always possible using cuban, of course. A 9'x9' tarp works pretty well for two people. At 9yd of material, plus stakes, hemming and some line, it finishes out at a little under a pound.
	My thoughts only

Subject: [pct-l] Tarp camping without a bivy

I've been wondering if anybody has any experience with tarp camping without a bivy. I've got a friend meeting up with me for the sierras (and maybe
past) and I'm thinking about picking up a light / cheap two-man tarp shelter for us during that time. It seems that the bivy system is the standard to go along with the tarp shelter, but is it entirely necessary?
