Hi All,
I read the List in digest form, so forgive me if you have received all
of these fire details already.
Jack Haskell at PCTA.org has been providing current updates on the
Powerhouse fire. In short, the trail was closed from Bouquet Cyn to the
aqueduct, with PCT traffic routed north and onto the aqueduct road. Then
fire reached the aqueduct, closing it to foot traffic. I expect that the
Suffleys are in the loop and will be able to offer solutions to arriving
hikers. But for the ones out there, stay safe, the fire will continue to
advance to the northeast today. Get to Hikertown on Hwy 138 however you
can.
Lake Hughes and L Elizabeth are under continued evacuation. Last night
the fire swept thru both communities, downing power lines and burning
many homes. Painted Turtle Camp was saved, except for some nonessential
buildings. Have heard that the Rock Inn was saved, as was the L Hughes
Community Center and the school. The fire continues to advance in Pine
Canyon, northwest of L Hughes.
The FS is stating that they'll revise their earlier estimate of
containment by Wednesday. Yesterday the fire had consumed 5000 acres,
the count is now around 20,000 and going up.
