[pct-l] Vacation from the vacation

Hi all,

I'm working on the logistics of taking several days or a week off the trail during my thru-attempt this year.

My parents have a significant wedding anniversary this year, and they seem keen to celebrate it in the mountains with me.  Happily, this coincides with the dates that my (nonhiking) dude can visit me for a week.  Other friends are also expected - should be a good time, and maybe some trail magic will be on offer.  All parties concerned will be flying in from various places around the states and internationally, so their logistics are just as much of a concern as my own.

The week in question is approx July 30 - Aug 6, give or take a couple days.

Seems to me there might be a couple of options.  First to meet someplace that's relatively easy for the others to get to - I was thinking of the Tahoe area, which has either SFO or Reno airports nearby, with rental cars, etc.  The downside is that if I'm on schedule to make it to Canada, I should probably be farther north of Tahoe by that time.  I know the herd is quite spread out by then, but any thoughts on where hikers will be around that time would be appreciated.  Also, any thoughts on getting from "there" back to Tahoe?  Public transport, trail angels who could give a ride in exchange for gas money, etc?

Second option would be for them to meet me in or nearby a trail town wherever I am at the time.  This seems a bit more nebulous to me....I thought the Shasta area might be feasible, but it's quite a pain in the ass for everyone to get to if they've already traveled halfway around the country/world...?

Advice or anecdotes would be much appreciated. Thanks all!

Kat
