[pct-l] Pack base weight

I am a begginer hiker and am going to be attempting a thru hike this year. My question is regarding base weight having to buy all my gear on a budget and being 6'4" im finding that cheap gear/big gear is not light. I originally planned for 15lb base weight but if I cant achieve that what is more or less an acceptable base weight? 18-19lbs too heavy?
