Compressed gas canisters are readily available at most of the common PCT
resupply stops. That includes Muir Trail Ranch, which carries a huge
inventory of every kind of fuel (including Esbit tablets) a hiker could
want. They guarantee to never run out of stock.
If you are travelling with or behind "The Herd" and are justifiably worried
about finding inventories temporary depleted when you arrive, you can hedge
your bets by contacting the store in advance to see if they will allow you
to pre-pay for 1 or more canisters and have them hold your purchase (with
your name on it) for later pickup at a pre-arranged date.
For those few uncertain spots, or for non-normal supply points, shipping
canisters may be your best option, assuming you are not willing/able to
carry a spare canister to get you from the previous resupply point to the
next one past.
Imagine the logistical challenges for us Esbit users. Fortunately the
tablets are only 1/2 ounce each so a 14 day supply is only 7 ounces.
