[pct-l] Permanent Bear Bins

Right after the food storage order was put into effect a couple years 
ago - referring to the big map -

A friend and I got a permit for a loop from the Lone Pine Ranger Station 
that didn't require us to carry a cannister.  This was predicated on us 
staying each night at a bear box location, which was clearly stated on 
the permit, night by night.

For hiking through the Sierra, I don't think you'd have any chance at 
all at convincing a backcountry ranger your PCT permit lets you hike 
cannister-less...

Warner Springs Monty did some calculations a couple years ago he posted 
to the listserv - 2006 or 2007.  You might be able to find them in the 
archives...
