[pct-l] Crampons for trail runners

Gandalf, I'm not sure what Ned would recommend, but Kahtoola has several
different products out there for snow traction which people routinely use
on the PCT, the microspikes and the KTS aluminum crampons, both of which
work with trail runners. Some folks loved the microspikes and some said
they had a tendency to roll on the shoe on steep icy sections. I used the
KTS cramps in 2010 on the PCT, a very snowy year, and the CDT in 2012, a
low snow year, and loved them when I used them on both hikes. They tend to
stiffen the soft sole of a trail runner so that you can kick in steps going
up and heal stomp when going down hill. On a side traverse you can cut
steps almost as well as full steel cramps and yet they weigh only a few
ounces more than the microspikes. They remain one of my favorite pieces of
gear.

Just my two cents.
